Phew - what a great meeting we had tonight! We had over 60 crafters in attendance, and probably half of those were non-team members who had read about our group in the Review Journal article and came by to see what all the fuss was about. We had a lovely time on the beautiful bistro patio at the Arts Factory, and shared our insider secrets for art and craft supply shopping. Team member Ashley will be posting all the sources we talked about at our meeting for those who were unable to attend. As usual, I forgot to get a team photo.
Marlene also continues to lead us in our ongoing charity project of creating origami pins to sell and raise money to clean up the Gulf oil spill and we worked on folding origami for that tonight as well. We need to fold 1,001 cranes or fish to turn into pins to sell in order to make our goal of raising $10,000 for this cause. Here's the press release regarding the project. Anyone who wants to fold in their spare time, is encouraged to do so. Here are instructions showing you how to make both the fish and the crane. Please use recycled paper bags to create your origami (like Starbucks, Macaroni Grill, or any great recycled brown paper bag). You should start with a square of paper approximately 4 inches square.
Also, because these are so fragile, we would like to package them for shipping in microscope cover glasses cases. We do need some help gathering these cases, however. If you'd like to help, please call the hospitals you live by, ask for their pathology department, and ask if you can come pick up their empty "microscope cover glasses cases." Click here to see what these look like. These are items that hospitals usually just throw away, but let them know that you would like to pick them up to use in a charity project to raise money for the Gulf spill and they should be more than happy to give them away. We will collect these at our group events.
Thanks to everyone who came out tonight. I'm falling more and more in love with this group everyday!

had a great time meeting some of the team members last night, so happy to be a part of this group! also just a note, would anyone be willing to help me teach others how to fold the cranes at the july 23 and 31st events sewing? it would be much appreciated!!
I feel so bad that I was not able to make it last night. I got off late from work. I hope I'll make it next time.
I just folded up a batch of cranes to donate. Schlotzsky's bags make some really cool-looking ones!
Ok if I send 'em along with The Squeezebox Hero to the Henderson ArtsWalk tomorrow night?
I totally enjoyed our evening together! It was supreme fun! However, I won't be able to attend the function on the 23rd, though the sewing circle on the 31 sounds like it could work.
What a great group we have going on! I love it!
