Maybe I'm a little slow this morning, but Whats the scam?

Teri XS Crazy and More said...

Then I'm right at your speed Rochelle, cause I don't see the scam either. Other than the extra work don't think I'd want to do. Unless the credit card info and the shipping place is part of the scam.

Kathy said...

I hope its true, but I believe I have heard from this guy before.

I told him I would post it on my Etsy Page the total and he could pay there. Haven't heard back.

I have never mailed anything to Japan I guess I could total everything up and email him and see how it goes. What do u think Rochelle?

kathy said...

Oh forgot
That would be a 1,500 order. To good to be true?

Not quite sure if this a scam...maybe might be to good to be true. I had huge request before and never heard from the person again after I gave her a quote. Just proceed with EXTRA cautions.

*Payment upfront
*get confirmation of delivery. Insist that you are only comfortable shipping by your preferred method

The shipping company has a gmail account??? hm...google the shipping company.

Make sure you do a reserve listing for him for all the items he request with your total costs for it all when you hear back from him. If he doesn't order, your only out of .20 cents.

My fingers are crossed for you.

Thx
I Google the shipping company Interlink Express and doesn't show anything for Japan.
I told him I would check on shipping so we will see what happens next.
I emailed the company to see what the cost would be and have not heard back either.

I usually use USPS for shipping but he requested this one.

I work for USPS and that's your safest bet. E-mail this guy and tell him that's the only way you'll ship. Bet you 5 bucks you won't hear from him again.

The price I believe for USPS is:
I would be shipping 50 pounds.
The largest box holds up to 20 pounds but that could differ depending on once I put all the soap in and the weight. Looks like it will be about 110.90, which of course he will pay.

Teri XS Crazy and More said...

It's the flat rate shipping that has a max of 20 lbs. If you put 50 lbs in a regular priority box it would be about $200 depending on the dimensions.

LOL, I'm always willing to do the work to find out shipping cost for a sale. sending anything out of the US is WORK to me, I swear the first time I did it, I did so much research I felt like I should be getting college credit for it LOL.I have nevere used UPS,It would require research on my part :) I guess I should figure that out, I hear it is less expensive if you have heavier items.

maybe it's just me but, I figure if you figure the shipping and do a reserved listing ( after he agrees) and he pays with the credit card through paypal so you know you have your money.whats the problem? I have had people order large amounts of things and sometimes they follow through and sometimes they don't,but I always do my end, because I don't want the loss of potential money to fall through because I didn't follow through on my end.

Got ya!
So far no answer back on anything I have written to him. I do remember now that he has contacted me once before. I am sure I just ignored it.

I guess there is a lot to do when u do International Shipping, even paperwork for customs.

Terri thx for the shipping info. too.
If it goes down I was thinking 2 boxes. But I did just give him a estimate.

Love your opinions!!

Has anyone shipped Internationally here, is it really worth it??

Rochelle, PayPal is great for processing credit cards for payment, but you also want to cover your behind. Buyer can complain to PayPal by saying they never receive items so you might not get the money and your products are history. Extra precaution is a smart thing when it comes to a large transaction. I, too only use USPS. They have insurance and confirmation of delivery. I think other carriers do as well. I personally don't have any experiences that I can share with you, but these are things that I have gathered from the Etsy forums.

Rochelle said...

Keona, never thought of that, you make a very good point, and with international shipping, I was told you could not get any kind of tracking or delivery confirmation. you just have to send it and pray.

I think international sales are totally worth it,I have gotten some very large international sales on my website, but I process my own credit cards through my merchant account from there ( so I know if it has gone through or been declined),but I guess they could file a complaint with their credit card company saying they did not receive their product also. I have gotten lucky I guess and had some easy transactions. thought that I thought of everything, but you guys have made me think :) it's great to be able to get ideas from everyone :)

I've sent international lots of times. To reputable people however. If you use click-n-ship, it will print out the customs labels that you need for that country. It's usually marked as a gift since that's usually what it is and you right down the contents on the customs forms. You can get the custom label holders at your PO or ask your carrier to bring you some. It's not the hard. Just be aware of people who will ask you to lie about the contents of the package. Don't ever do that.

I must have eyes made to catch scams. I caught a craigslist job one earlier this week.

1. The guy doesn't want to buy on Etsy.
2. He lives very far away, which makes it difficult for a seller to get their money back.
3. He wants her to use HIS shipping service. Nobody tells me who to use to ship my own merchandise.
4. It's a large order, and I don't believe he plans to resell them as he never mentioned that in the convo she pasted.

In regards to the craigslist scam I mentioned earlier, don't click an outside link to apply for a job, especially after you emailed a company your resume. Those are scams.

Kathy, I have shipped to France, Canada, England, and Australia. It is worth the effort for me because my items are light. I always use USPS and ship First Class International, which is the cheapest way to go.

Kathy said...

Thx everyone I so love the input!

It is so scary out there with all the identity scams.
I still haven't heard from him, don't think I will.

I worry just a little about pay pal sometimes. My sister-in-law used pay pal for the first time to order from a reputable company and someone got a hold of her number somehow and a second order of the same thing went out and it wasn't the companies fault. But pay pal reimbursed her.
Must say both parties were on top of it.

I thought its a bit weird to tell someone how to ship their items, I even have that listed on my Etsy page that I use USPS.

Thanks ladies
You r great!!

Hey There,
Heard back from the shipping place listed but they want my address.
Do u think I should give it to them?

Teri XS Crazy and More said...

All they need is your city, state and zip.

Teri XS Crazy and More said...

Just curious - after reading the post he sent to you, did you contact him first?

Kathy said...

No. Did not contact him first. He contacted me and I think this is the 2nd time. I ignored the first one.

I sent them the city, state and zip.

I emailed him personally and told him about USPS. Have not heard back.

This seems to fishy?

I can't believe someone would pay that amount for shipping on 50 bars of soap?

Teri XS Crazy and More said...

The reason I ask is you have in your blog that he "thanks you for your response to his inquiry". If you didn't respond to it then that would be the fishy part to me. I always say go with your gut feeling on things.

Was a scam!
Never heard back

I received an almost identical email, same customer number, but from Richard Fellow and not John. I think the scam is that Interlink doesn't take credit cards, so you have to wire them the money before you ship. Still researching via outside contact to interlink as the email he gave produced a very quick shipping quote with very little additional info needed.

IT IS A SCAM!!! Richard Fellow from Tokyo Japan contacted our company to purchase 200 prints valued at 2000.00. He asked to use his preferred shipper - pickup express who provided quotation for 1800.00. In spite of Fedex charges being around 300.00 for that shipment, he insisted on shipping with that company that does not virtully exist. He provided his credit card number and expiry date. We got suspicious and ran the card through the global master card search engine that authenticates credit cards and were told that the card does not belong to a Richard Fellow, and the card address is in USA not Japan. When we refused to ship to him using the carrier of his choice, he canceled the order. The scam (it is our speculation) is that he is using someone else's master card to purchase something and get the prepayment for shipping to the company that does not exist (most likely himself). When the fraud is discovered by the CC owner (most likely 3 weeks from now when he gets the statement), the credit card company reverses the charges and we would be out of the money and the product and also have a charge back on our CC processing terminal. Please insist on shipping with renown carrier and see if he cancels his order.
