I was a vendor yesterday, Saturday. It was sooo windy, tents are flying.I stayed only until 12pm and just decided to pack up.Not a lot of people are coming since it started last Friday, also CSN is charging $5 for parking.Hopefully today will be better.
For me, it was a big, fat flop. The weather was great on Friday, but there was NOBODY there. Vendors were supposed to all stay until 10pm, but most people started packing up around 8pm and by 9, my entire vendor row was dark so nobody even bothered coming down to see my booth. Then on Saturday, it was so windy, that a ton of us vendors had our products blowing all over the event and a lot of canopies got destroyed/blown over. There was a lot of screaming/cussing as vendors scrambled to save product. I wanted to just stick it out, but after all the contents of my booth got blown out 4 times, I just packed up and left. The person who was going to sell in my booth for today got sick and couldn't make it either. I did make back my booth fee and a little extra, but it wasn't in any way worth it for the super long hours and light foot traffic. Be glad you weren't a vendor for this one!!
I am so sorry it turned out to be a dud. One can never count on the weather in an outside show. It's too bad there wasn't much traffic.Honestly, I'm surprised. I guess indoor shows are a better bet for this time of the year.
I'm at least grateful that I made my table money back and then some. Saturday was terrible and nerve racking, sunday was decent and I can happily say I sold something every day I was there. Now I know not to do outdoor shows this time of year unless I can set up a plexi glass cube around my booth LOL
After doing craft fairs for about 20 years, the weather is the PRIME reason I won't do outside shows - even in the summer. Mt. Charleston last August was a prime example. Although I would do that one again in the summer, you never, never know what the weather is going to do.
We went not as vendors but just to take the kiddos My husband and I have a 16 month old and another military couple have a 2 1/2 year old. We were sorely dissappointed that they charged $5 a car for parking and the lot you parked at was very far away (both of the 'wives' myself included are due in just a few days) so the long walk with strollers was hard. We went on Saturday and it was extremely windy, there were hardly and vendors and yes- we saw tents flying or having been blown over. However, we went for the kid-friendly festivities but there were none to be found for our little ones- just for older kids that we could've gone to circus-circus for. I was really dissappointed and sad that I drug everyone out there for a big dud. We did grab two funnel cakes after walking around and seeing there was nothing we were interested in doing. The funnel cake was good- but all in all it was a big flop for us as attendees much less had I been vending. We ended up going to an event on-base instead so at least our boys could do something fun for Halloween. I'm sorry for everyone who vended because it looked very bare with hardly anyone in attendance- more so the people working the event than people actually going to it.
What a bummer ladies! I usually won't do outside shows this time of year either or in extreme heat. I really enjoyed our Mt. Charleston Show even though it rained the last 45 mins, it was fun and a great profit for me.
I also went to check it out too and was surprised they charged 5.00 for parking to, but then I saw valet after the fact. That could have been better to do and valet is usually by tip.
Looking forward to our next Mt. Charleston show and a few others I have going on.
One thing I have learned from doing shows outside for winds and tents, is to have them weighted down, I have sandbags for mine and it works great!
How very frustrating! I have been trying to decide if I want to do anymore outside shows myself. The heat in the summer and the wind most of the year certainly are not display-friendly for my bath and body products.
Hopefully you all will have a fabulous show next time to make up for this one.
I also try to avoid doing outside shows, I hate dealing witht the weather. I have a few shows that are worth the weather issues.I've learned a few tips and tricks along the way. one time a man(total craft veteran)taught me about putting screws down into the pavement, to hold my canopy. they probably didn't want us doing that, but the winds were so bad that using weights was like using feathers. it totally saved my weekend.
