Quarterly Team Party Announced

Dear Handmade in Vegas team members,

The amazing Robi Dunn, who just organized and executed a great show up at Mt. Charleston earlier this month, has just offered to host our team up at her Mt. Charleston digs in October for a team get together. Those of you who have been up to Mt. Charleston know how beautiful it is up there, and those who haven't, this will be a great opportunity to finally check out the beautiful mountain scenery.

Here are the details from Robi:

Come spend a beautiful fall day on Mount Charleston. Our quarterly meeting will be on Saturday, October 8th, from 1pm-5pm at Robi Dunn's (nevadawoods). Hamburgers and sausage will be served at this Octoberfest. Bring a side dish or a dessert and RSVP if you can make it. Directions are below:


Take the ramp onto US-95 N

Turn left onto NV-157 W/Kyle Canyon Rd (first Mount Charleston exit to Kyle Canyon) 18.9 mi

Team Potluck Party!

Hi Team - Let's get together and enjoy this beautiful weather!  How about a pot luck at my house on June 4th from 5-9pm.  I'll provide the hot dogs and hamburgers, you guys bring some sides, and we'll gab the night away.  Our team has grown quite a bit since the last party at my house and so plan on meeting some great new amazing people!

The 2nd Tuesday meeting at Findlay Chevrolet has been canceled and we are going to try for quarterly parties instead since the NW meetup has been such a success.  Thanks, Kathy!

March Team Meeting

Wow - March has really snuck up on me!  The second Tuesday of the month is only a week away so here's the details on our monthly meeting:

Why: Cause we're cool like that


Topic: Selling online outside of Etsy (other possible venues such as Artfire, Zibbet, Bonanza, webstore, Amazon, eBay, etc)


Craft: Simple origami patterns.  Basic craft paper will be supplied, bring your own fancy origami paper if you'd like!


We are no longer doing a raffle event at our team meetings since there are not enough attendees to justify the donations.  However, food donations are always welcome!

February Team Meeting and NorthWest Meetup

Team Christmas Party Update

Hi Team - our original date for the team party conflicts with the scheduled December Henderson ArtsWalk (Dec. 16th, our team sponsors this event as well) so I've moved the date to Tuesday, Dec. 14th from 7-9. I had to change the location as well and we'll now be meeting at a more NW location, near the 95 and Cheyenne.

I've updated the meetup page here - click here for all the updated details, address and map. It's actually a much better venue for us, it's bigger, easier to access, and has a full bar and restaurant on site for anyone who wants to show up early or get some drinks during our event.

Since this venue can hold up to 80 people, I'd love to encourage everyone to bring a date (or two!) Kids are welcome to attend as well. It's a completely contained meeting room.

I'd love to hear any ideas for possible group crafts we could do at the event while doing the present swap and chowing down. Hopefully something that doesn't require too much skill, supplies are inexpensive, and that we could complete in an evening. Anyone have any ideas?

Can't wait to see everyone! And sorry for another meeting change. These monthly meeting scheduling and locations sometimes get the best of me.

November Meeting: Small Business and Tax Expert Advice

It's already time to get talking about our November meeting!  Details and RSVP here.

I know many of us have questions about the legalities of setting up our business and tax questions, so I've found  a local accounting firm who is willing to send one of their CPAs out to talk to us and do some Q&A.  If would be very helpful for those of you with specific questions to post them in comments to this post or on the meetup site so the presenter can be prepared with discussion topics that are most applicable for our group.  If you haven't already, please register on our Meetup site so you can receive notifications of any new meetings or changes to existing meetings.

Team Meeting Tomorrow: Get Ready for Christmas Shopping Season!

Hi team, Here's a quick reminder about our meeting tomorrow at Studio 8 Ten (details and RSVP here).  We'll be talking about getting our shops and products all ship-shape for the Christmas shopping season, what the hot trends are that we can capitalize on, and how to creatively market and advertise our shops to get buyers in the first place.   As always, come with your question and advice.  And don't forget a notepad for this one.  The information will be flowing fast and furious.

October Team Meeting

Our October meeting will be on October 12th at 7pm at the same location as last month, Studio 8 Ten on Las Vegas Blvd. We will also be holding our November meeting at Studio 8 Ten but then from December on, we'll be meeting at Findlay Chevrolet community room near the 215 and Jones.

I know some of you were concerned about this location not being safe, but after using this spot last month, everyone who attended seemed satisfied with the well lit parking lot directly behind the studio with direct access to the meeting room as well as the very nice accommodations inside.

I'm open to suggestions as to what we can do at this meeting. If you've got any topics you'd like to see covered or would like to lead an art demonstration, please leave your comment to this post. I'll try and have the meeting details finalized by this Sunday. Our meetings are getting more and more fun as we all get to know each other - I hope many of you can make it for this one!

Update - New Location for Tomorrow's Team Meeting

Due to a scheduling SNAFU, we are changing the location of tomorrow's meeting.  Instead of meeting at Findlay Chevrolet on the 215, we'll be meeting at Studio 8 Ten (a gallery of one of our own team members, Angela).  All the other meeting details are remaining the same.  A HUGE thanks to Angela for helping us out at the last minute and offering her gallery on a Friday night.

Remember to bring a 8.5x10 page about your shop that we can add to our Handmade in Vegas team tables at events around town.  Contact Marti with any questions - she's the one ultimately putting it together for us, but needs your page.  You can do it scrapbook style, all on the computer, add glitter, whatever you'd like.  But one sided, and able to be slipped into a plastic sleeve.

There will also be a destash table, and a display table for your to show off your latest creations.

Our September team meeting is all scheduled in the community room of Findlay Chevrolet! We're having a Friday evening meeting due to scheduling conflicts but hope that we can still get a great turnout from the team.

The meeting will include:

• Presentations from some of our team's top Etsy sellers in which they discuss what they've learned about how to run a booming, healthy Etsy shop with Q&A
• Presentation from Team Co-Leader Heather Pyle about how to secretly give away art.
• A destash table - bring any supplies you don't need and feel free to bring home someone else's extra.
• Raffle Table - anyone can donate to the raffle, bring the item with you to the meeting. Also, the September raffle will feature one of Eric (Stone Wizard's) popular stone cutting boards. Grand prize remains the month long feature on the front page of our team website
• Our Origami Crane Pins will also be available for purchase at this meeting for $5 each.

Treats are always appreciated. If you can bring some munchies to share, that would be fabulous. Drinks will be provided.

As always, this meeting is open to the public. Hope to see you all there!  And a big thanks to Rochelle for suggesting this location for us.  We've booked here for all of 2011 for the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

August Team Event

Hi Team - for the month of August in lieu of a formal meeting, we are encouraging all team members to drive up and spend the day at our Team Sponsored Artisan Fair!  More details and RSVP here.

We'll get back to our regular meeting format in September, but for this month, this event is what we're pouring all our efforts into.  Robi, our event coordinator deserves our highest praises for her huge effort and time spent on this putting this together.  Make sure to visit her two shops, Nevada Woods and Nevada Woods Wearables to see what she does when she isnt' breaking her back for us!

Volunteers for Tuesday's Team Meeting?

Hi Team - Our July team meeting is on Tuesday night and now that we've got some RSVPs, I'm hoping some of you could help out at the event. I was thinking that we could use the night to share our art community resources so if any of you are willing to take a minute and tell the group what your favorite art/craft supply resources are, please let me know. I'm thinking people could share online resources, local resources, etc. I'd love to get someone from each of the different Etsy Shop categories (jewelry, bags, clothing, kids, etc). We will also be working on our origami pins to raise money to clean up the gulf oil spill.

Marti from Happy Bug Designs also is interested in getting a destash table put together at the meeting. If you have any art/craft supplies that you are no longer going to use, please bring them and you will be able to pick up someone else's destash items.

I'd also love to start each of our meetings with a highlight of one of our members. If you would be willing to present your work and give a short talk about who you are and what you do at this or any meeting in the future, please let me know. I'll give you the first five minutes of the meeting. You can use the time to demo how you create your items, talk about your experience selling, or anything else you think the team would be interested in.

sewing circles for the team!! 2 this month!!

Hi Everyone,

I have decided to start putting together monthly sewing circles down at my shop (Altered Nation Designs) for MadeInVegas Team members and other Vegas sewing enthusiasts! There are a couple of couches, a tv (movies!!), a cafe, art galleries, boutiques and more right in the heart of old Vegas-on Fremont! ... I think it will be a lot of fun and we can all get to know each other while crafting (we will also be doing charity projects periodically).

Team Event on July 31st

I just wanted to drop a post here about an event team member Susan with Altered Nations has planned for us on Saturday, July 31st.  Details and RSVP here.  The event will be at the new Emergency Arts building down in the arts district.  It's an awesome venue where Susan has her own store.  She hopes to have an event for our group every 4th Saturday of the month there.  This is a good one for those of you who are unable to attend weeknight events.

July Team Meeting Information

I'm happy to announce our next team meeting for July. The Arts Factory in the downtown LV arts district has generously offered their bistro patio space to us. It's totally shaded, tons of chairs, table space, and an on-site bar and restaurant. The address is 107 E. Charleston Blvd., LV 89104.  There is a free parking lot behind the building.*

I'm hoping we can stick to the 2nd Tuesday of each month for our group meetings, so this next one is scheduled for July 13th, from 7pm to 9pm. As always, the public and potential members are always welcome at our events.

For the July meeting, we'll be discussing local art community resources, holding a raffle, providing a display table for members, and doing a simple group craft and providing the craft materials.  If you have insight into a particular area of the local arts community and would like to share your information with the group, please let me know.

street called Boulder Ave. Construction work on the Boulder Plaza sculpture park is now completed

so the easiest way to access our building (and free parking lot) is off Charleston at the eastern corner of

our building via “Art Way” or by So. First Street off Coolidge. Sound confusing? It will make sense

when you get to the nearby blocks.

Our June Meeting: Celebrate Etsy's Birthday with Us!

Hi Team - I'm really excited to announce our June team event. Etsy is celebrating its birthday on June 18th and is asking for help to coordinate a world-wide craft party that day. Even though Etsy didn't give me anything for my birthday last year, I'm a forgiving gal, and would be happy to oblige.

So let's get together on June 18th and craft! The event will be on Friday night from 6:30 to 9:00 (or later, if you are a real party animal), come and go as you please. It will be held at a private home and we will be using both indoor and outdoor space. If you'd like to bring your camp chair, it would be appreciated for outdoor seating. Also, if you find yourself in a crunch and need to bring your kids, there is a playroom with a DVD player and a large yard with a sandbox.  The address is 330 E. Rancho Dr., Henderson NV  89015.  Yes, this is the Rancho Drive in HENDERSON, not Las Vegas.  It's close to the intersection of highway 95 and 215.  Click the RSVP link for a map.
