Last year was a blur, folks. I can't believe this team is almost a year old! I'm so excited about what we've become and really proud of the incredible talent we've got in the group. I've had so many great opportunities fall into my lap since becoming captain and my business had definitely been positively affected by my team captainship. So positive, in fact, that I'm now in the planning stages of mass manufacturing and have a bunch of out of state toy conventions in the works. I've also begun selling on many other off-Etsy venues and also am conducing the bulk of my business at local monthly events.
Suffice it to say, I'm very blessed that business is booming and am concerned about not having the time to devote to team captain responsibilities at this point. This is what we've currently got working on the team:
226 members from all over the Las Vegas metroplex
A great jurying committee who vets/adds new members
A wonderful Facebook committee managed by Kathy Wheeler
A monthly team newsletter put together by Natalie
An active Twitter account managed by Helen
A team Etsy shop at www.handmadeinvegas.etsy.com managed by Teri
A free monthly meeting spot scheduled through the end of 2011 at the Findlay Chevrolet in Las Vegas on the 2nd Tuesday of each month to use as we see fit
A team sponsorship of the Henderson ArtWalk (now Artbeat) craft event
A few great team craft fairs (thanks, Robi!) and more in the works
This site where locals can shop all our products at the same time and come for our information
As team captain, I've basically been a touch point for team members with great ideas and coordinate the monthly meetings. I've tried to make sure everyone was on the same page, put together the online community (which now runs it's self pretty well!) and kept tabs with Etsy admin regarding team policies and ideas. I also make periodic judgement calls on gray areas and questions that come up. I think it's important that there be one person who all the ideas are being run through so the team doesn't inadvertently work against itself and we can put our maximum effort into any projects we choose to adopt.
Even after I step down as captain, I will continue to run the Henderson craft fair for Handmade in Vegas on Fridays in April, May, June, Sept and October (unless the new captain wants to do this).
So the question is, would anyone else now like to step up for 2011 as the team captain? I won't lie and say it's super easy, but it is very rewarding, an opportunity to make lots of great friends, and the business aspect will be great for your sales. Also, I'd love ideas on how to go about installing a new captain. If more than one person is interested in leading the group this year, should we hold a team vote to install them?
I've had very mixed feelings about this since I love being captain, but with my upcoming conventions and next stage of business combined with a seriously overloaded plate, I thought it best to pass the torch. Any and all ideas or suggestions on how to implement this change are welcome.

Voting sounds like a great idea!
Yeah, I think voting is a good idea.
I agree with voting
Voting sounds good but is there a way to have the candidates make statements so that it is not a popularity contest but vote on the person that has the best ideas/connections/way for the group to go into 2011 with the best person leading it.

I agree with bonebag. 100%
Firstly, I'd like to say congratulations to Sarah for things going so well and also a BIG thank you for all your hard work as it is definitely appreciated!
I agree that those who wish to be up for the position post some kind of statement and then we have a vote.
That's assuming with have more than one candidate (or at least one.)
ChezChani, I was thinking the same thing! It's definitely a big job.
What Theresa said. ;)
